Voice dictation for Amp.
Amp’s dictation lives in its web and Mac apps. Copy That brings voice to the Amp CLI in your terminal too: press one button on your iPhone or Apple Watch, talk, and the prompt is pasted into Amp on your Mac.

Copy that. Pasted into Amp
Amp has dictation on ampcode.com and in its macOS and iOS apps (⌘⇧D), and realtime voice with its Puck assistant on a cloud model. The CLI docs don’t mention dictation, and the docs describe dictation audio being sent for transcription. The macOS app needs macOS 26.
As of October 2026.
- Dictate into the Amp CLI in any terminal.
- Transcribed on your Mac with Whisper, so no audio goes to a speech service and there’s no speech API key to set up.
- Works on macOS 15, no need for macOS 26.
- One button on your phone or watch instead of a hotkey, and you can talk from across the room.
- Push.
One button on your Apple Watch or iPhone.
- Talk.
Say the prompt, anywhere, on any network.
- Paste.
Your Mac transcribes it and pastes it into Amp.
- Does Copy That work with Amp?
- Yes. Copy That pastes your transcribed words into whatever app is in front on your Mac, so it works with Amp with no plugin or setup inside Amp.
- Does Amp have voice input?
- Yes, on ampcode.com and in the Amp Mac and iOS apps (⌘⇧D on Mac), plus realtime voice with Puck. The CLI docs don’t mention dictation.
- Can I dictate to the Amp CLI?
- Yes, with Copy That: it pastes your transcribed prompt into the terminal where Amp is running.
- Do my iPhone and Mac need to be on the same Wi-Fi?
- No. Recordings go through your own private iCloud, so your phone can be on cellular in a café while your Mac is at home. The Mac just needs to be awake and online.
- Where is my voice transcribed?
- On your Mac, with Whisper. Audio passes through your own iCloud account and is never sent to a speech-to-text service.
- What does it cost?
- The iPhone and Mac apps are free. The Apple Watch app is a one-time $4.99. There is no subscription.
