Voice dictation · Factory Droid
Voice dictation for Factory Droid.
Factory’s desktop app has dictation; the Droid CLI doesn’t. Copy That brings voice to Droid in your terminal: press one button on your iPhone or Apple Watch, talk, and the prompt is pasted on your Mac.

Copy that. Pasted into Factory Droid
The Factory desktop app has voice dictation with a start/stop key, and admins can turn it off for an organization. Factory doesn’t document which speech service it uses. Factory’s docs show no voice input in the Droid CLI.
As of October 2026.
- Voice in the Droid CLI, in any terminal.
- Transcribed on your Mac with Whisper: you know exactly where your audio goes.
- One button on your phone or watch instead of a hotkey, and you can talk from across the room.
- Works the same in the Factory app and every other app on your Mac.
- Push.
One button on your Apple Watch or iPhone.
- Talk.
Say the prompt, anywhere, on any network.
- Paste.
Your Mac transcribes it and pastes it into Factory Droid.
- Does Copy That work with Factory Droid?
- Yes. Copy That pastes your transcribed words into whatever app is in front on your Mac, so it works with Factory Droid with no plugin or setup inside Factory Droid.
- Does Droid CLI have voice input?
- Not in the terminal CLI, as far as Factory’s docs show. The Factory desktop app has voice dictation.
- Can I dictate to Droid in the terminal?
- Yes, with Copy That: it pastes your transcribed prompt into the terminal where Droid is running.
- Do my iPhone and Mac need to be on the same Wi-Fi?
- No. Recordings go through your own private iCloud, so your phone can be on cellular in a café while your Mac is at home. The Mac just needs to be awake and online.
- Where is my voice transcribed?
- On your Mac, with Whisper. Audio passes through your own iCloud account and is never sent to a speech-to-text service.
- What does it cost?
- The iPhone and Mac apps are free. The Apple Watch app is a one-time $4.99. There is no subscription.
