Copy That
Voice dictation · Kiro

Voice dictation for Kiro.

Kiro CLI can take voice; the Kiro IDE chat can’t. Copy That works in both: press one button on your iPhone or Apple Watch, talk, and your prompt or spec idea is pasted into Kiro on your Mac.

Kiro’s built-in voice today

Kiro CLI has voice mode: /voice, or hold Space at the prompt, transcribed locally with Whisper. The Kiro IDE chat has no microphone or dictation; requests for it are open (#57, #11527).

As of October 2026.

Why Copy That with Kiro
  • Voice in the Kiro IDE chat, which has no microphone.
  • The same button for Kiro CLI, the IDE and every other app.
  • Transcribed on your Mac with Whisper, so no audio goes to a speech service and there’s no speech API key to set up.
  • One button on your phone or watch instead of a hotkey, and you can talk from across the room.
How it works
  1. Push.

One button on your Apple Watch or iPhone.

  2. Talk.

Say the prompt, anywhere, on any network.

  3. Paste.

Your Mac transcribes it and pastes it into Kiro.

Questions
Does Copy That work with Kiro?
Yes. Copy That pastes your transcribed words into whatever app is in front on your Mac, so it works with Kiro with no plugin or setup inside Kiro.
Does Kiro have voice input?
Kiro CLI does: /voice or hold Space, transcribed on your machine with Whisper. The Kiro IDE chat has no built-in dictation.
Can I dictate specs to the Kiro IDE?
Yes, with Copy That: it pastes your transcribed words into the Kiro chat or any editor field.
Do my iPhone and Mac need to be on the same Wi-Fi?
No. Recordings go through your own private iCloud, so your phone can be on cellular in a café while your Mac is at home. The Mac just needs to be awake and online.
Where is my voice transcribed?
On your Mac, with Whisper. Audio passes through your own iCloud account and is never sent to a speech-to-text service.
What does it cost?
The iPhone and Mac apps are free. The Apple Watch app is a one-time $4.99. There is no subscription.
