Voice dictation · Roo Code

Roo Code can read its answers aloud, but you can’t talk to it. Copy That adds voice input: press one button on your iPhone or Apple Watch, talk, and the prompt is pasted into Roo Code on your Mac.

Copy that. Pasted into Roo Code
Roo Code has no voice input; its only speech feature is text-to-speech for replies. Requests for voice input were closed as not planned (#8852, #9052), and the Roo Code repository was archived in May 2026, so the extension gets no further updates.
As of October 2026.
- Adds voice input Roo Code will never get: Copy That doesn’t depend on the extension being updated.
- Transcribed on your Mac with Whisper, so no audio goes to a speech service and there’s no speech API key to set up.
- One button on your phone or watch instead of a hotkey, and you can talk from across the room.
- Keeps working if you move to another extension or editor.
- Push.
One button on your Apple Watch or iPhone.
- Talk.
Say the prompt, anywhere, on any network.
- Paste.
Your Mac transcribes it and pastes it into Roo Code.
- Does Copy That work with Roo Code?
- Yes. Copy That pastes your transcribed words into whatever app is in front on your Mac, so it works with Roo Code with no plugin or setup inside Roo Code.
- Does Roo Code have voice input?
- No. Roo Code can read replies aloud, but it has no speech-to-text, and the requests for it were closed as not planned.
- Is Roo Code still maintained?
- No. Its GitHub repository was archived in May 2026. The extension is still on the VS Code Marketplace but gets no updates.
- Do my iPhone and Mac need to be on the same Wi-Fi?
- No. Recordings go through your own private iCloud, so your phone can be on cellular in a café while your Mac is at home. The Mac just needs to be awake and online.
- Where is my voice transcribed?
- On your Mac, with Whisper. Audio passes through your own iCloud account and is never sent to a speech-to-text service.
- What does it cost?
- The iPhone and Mac apps are free. The Apple Watch app is a one-time $4.99. There is no subscription.
