Voice dictation for GitHub Copilot.
Copilot can take dictation at the keyboard. Copy That lets you talk to it from anywhere: press one button on your iPhone or Apple Watch, say the prompt, and it’s pasted into Copilot Chat or Copilot CLI on your Mac.

VS Code has built-in dictation for Copilot Chat: click the mic or hold ⌘I. It runs on-device on Apple silicon; Intel Macs need the VS Code Speech extension. Copilot CLI added /voice in June 2026 with local push-to-talk on Space; it isn’t available on Intel Macs. Both record with the Mac’s own microphone.

- Does Copy That work with GitHub Copilot?
- Yes. Copy That pastes your transcribed words into whatever app is in front on your Mac, so it works with GitHub Copilot with no plugin or setup inside GitHub Copilot.
- Does GitHub Copilot have voice input?
- Yes. VS Code has built-in dictation for Copilot Chat (mic button or hold ⌘I), and Copilot CLI has /voice since June 2026. Both use the Mac’s microphone.
- Can I dictate to Copilot away from my desk?
- Not with the built-in voice, which records with the Mac’s microphone. Copy That records on your iPhone or Apple Watch and pastes into Copilot on your Mac, on any network.
- Do my iPhone and Mac need to be on the same Wi-Fi?
- No. Recordings go through your own private iCloud, so your phone can be on cellular in a café while your Mac is at home. The Mac just needs to be awake and online.
- Where is my voice transcribed?
- On your Mac, with Whisper. Audio passes through your own iCloud account and is never sent to a speech-to-text service.
- What does it cost?
- The iPhone and Mac apps are free. The Apple Watch app is a one-time $4.99. There is no subscription.
