Voice dictation · Qwen Code
Voice dictation for Qwen Code.
Qwen Code’s voice needs a cloud speech model you configure first. Copy That needs nothing: press one button on your iPhone or Apple Watch, talk, and the prompt is pasted into Qwen Code on your Mac.
qwen — ~/config-loader
>Refactor the config loader to read TOML as well as YAML, keep the existing tests passing, and add one test for a TOML file.
Copy that. Pasted into Qwen Code
Qwen Code has built-in dictation: run /voice, pick a transcription model with /model --voice, then hold or tap Space. Audio goes to the cloud speech model you configure (Qwen3-ASR, Fun-ASR or Paraformer via DashScope), and dictation stays off until a voice model is set.
As of October 2026.
- No speech model or DashScope key to set up.
- Audio never leaves your Mac: Whisper runs locally.
- One button on your phone or watch instead of a hotkey, and you can talk from across the room.
- The same button for Qwen Code and every other app on your Mac.
- Push.
One button on your Apple Watch or iPhone.
- Talk.
Say the prompt, anywhere, on any network.
- Paste.
Your Mac transcribes it and pastes it into Qwen Code.
- Does Copy That work with Qwen Code?
- Yes. Copy That pastes your transcribed words into whatever app is in front on your Mac, so it works with Qwen Code with no plugin or setup inside Qwen Code.
- Does Qwen Code have voice input?
- Yes. Run /voice, choose a transcription model with /model --voice, and hold or tap Space. It uses cloud Qwen/DashScope speech models.
- Is Qwen Code voice dictation local?
- No, audio goes to the speech provider you configure. Copy That transcribes on your Mac with Whisper.
- Do my iPhone and Mac need to be on the same Wi-Fi?
- No. Recordings go through your own private iCloud, so your phone can be on cellular in a café while your Mac is at home. The Mac just needs to be awake and online.
- Where is my voice transcribed?
- On your Mac, with Whisper. Audio passes through your own iCloud account and is never sent to a speech-to-text service.
- What does it cost?
- The iPhone and Mac apps are free. The Apple Watch app is a one-time $4.99. There is no subscription.
